TRANSPORTATION ELIGIBILITY

Students are eligible for school bus transportation using the following guidelines:
  • 5-12 students who reside in PCSC School District and live outside the established walk zone.
  • K-4 students who reside in PCSC School District, live outside the established walk zone and are attending their home school.
  • K-4 students granted administrative approval to attend a school not in their home school boundary are not eligible for transportation unless they are being transported to an approved alternate location within their approved school boundary.
  • Transportation will be provided for students receiving McKinney-Vento services.

TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES

School bus transportation is a privilege and not a right.  It is not required by the State of Indiana, but PCSC may provide transportation under the following guidelines:
  • Transportation is determined by using the student's verified home address or an approved alternate address.
  • Stops must be at the same location every morning and the same location every afternoon.  Irregular days or alternating days will be the responsibility of the parents and/or daycare to transport.
  • All pick-up and drop-off locations for K-4 must be within their attending school boundary.
  • Our expectation is that all students are to be at their bus stop 5-7 minutes before the scheduled stop time.
  • Students may only ride their assigned bus to/from their assigned stop.
  • If your student does not ride for ten (10) consecutive days, they will be removed from the bus route.  Parents will need to submit a request for transportation to resume service.
  • Transportation routes, bus numbers and schedules are subject to change at any time.  We recommend checking your Transportation Portal for the most up to date busing information.

WALK ZONE GUIDELINES

Students will be expected to walk a reasonable distance to their attending school.
  • Walk Zone boundaries are approx. one (1) mile from the school.
  • The walking distance is measured from the school property line to the student’s residential property line.
  • The walking distance shall be considered as the shortest, most reasonable and safest route to walk to school.
  • Walk zones are identified on the school walk zone maps.
  • We do not assess all possible walking routes, supervise those routes, or guarantee the safety of any particular route.
  • Parents are responsible for selecting their students’ walking routes to and from school/home.  Crossing Guards should be used when available.

NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS

PCSC may provide transportation for non-public students under the following guidelines:
  • Transportation is determined by using the student's verified home address or approved alternate address.
  • Students who reside in PCSC School District and live outside the established walk zone.
  • Based on availability on an existing route.  If the bus becomes full, parents and/or the school will be responsible for transportation.
  • No additional expenses are incurred.

ALTERNATE AND DAYCARE BUS STOPS

School bus transportation is primarily designed for transporting students to and from their home.  However, PCSC will transport to/from alternate stops if the following guidelines are followed:
  • Alternate stops must be approved by the Transportation Dept. Alternate stops must be located in the students attending school boundary and outside the established walk zone.
  • Alternate stops are required to be listed as a student contact within PowerSchool.
  • Alternate transportation is based on availability on an existing route.  If the bus becomes full, parents and/or the daycare will be responsible for transportation.
  • Our expectation is that all students are to be at their bus stop 5-7 minutes before the scheduled stop time.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TRANSPORTATION

School bus transportation is provided to students with special needs in accordance with Federal, State and Board of Education laws, rules and regulations for service.  Specialized transportation will be determined as part of the students IPE or 504 plan.
