Winter Recess Policy

Winter Recess Policy on black snowy background

As the cold and snow season inches closer, we would like to remind everyone of our recess policy.

Students will need to have with them on a regular basis the following items:

  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Coat
  • Snow Pants
  • Snow Boots

Our recess policy states elementary students will participate in at least one outdoor recess per day.  Students need the fresh air and freedom of the playground. It is important that children come dressed appropriately for the weather. All students will go outside for recess unless they are being kept inside to complete academic work or those with written medical permission.

The following conditions are considered to determine if inside recess will be conducted:

  • Rain or wet snow
  • Ice or mud
  • Temperature or wind chill values below 15 degrees.
  • Temperature over 100-degree heat index
  • High wind advisory

Teaching assistants supervising recess may bring students inside if they determine weather conditions warrant it.
