Plymouth Community School Corporation would like to welcome Ward Byers as Director of Safety, effective July 19, 2023. With a distinguished career in public service and strong commitment to community well-being, Byers brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Byers is a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1985. He continued his education at the esteemed Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1992, not only solidifying his knowledge of law enforcement, but setting the precedent for a long and successful career ahead of him. He further demonstrated his commitment to personal growth and community development by graduating from Leadership Marshall County. With a diverse background spanning several decades, Byers has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to community service, boasting a proven track record of leadership. His prior roles include serving as Marshall County Coroner from 1989 to 1993, Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy from 1992 to 2010, Marshall County Council member from 2009 to 2013, and Police Officer for Notre Dame from 2010 to 2013. Most recently, Byers has served as the Director of Marshall County Community Corrections for the past ten years and has been the Town Board President of Bourbon since 2020. As the Director of Safety, Byers will ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors within the Plymouth Community School Corporation. His responsibilities encompass the development of programs that promote a secure setting, oversight of policies, training coordination, management of security systems and personnel, collaboration with law enforcement, and response to emergencies. Additionally, Byers will work in tandem with other departments, administer risk management protocols, and foster positive relationships with stakeholders. Truancy intervention, event coordination, and the maintenance of workplace privacy are also among Byers' duties. Byers remains focused on utilizing his extensive experience, leadership skills, and dedication to serve the community and make a positive impact in his new role. He expressed his excitement for the position stating, "As a 1985 graduate of PHS, it will be nice to return and give back. The opportunity to bring my experience and skills to the Corporation's safety model and build on the excellent work of Ted Brown is quite exciting."
