The following students were nominated by a PHS staff member for showing growth during December and award winners were selected by a team of PHS administrators. Please join us in congratulating senior Sarah Lopez Tapia, sophomore Caleb Deacon, and freshmen Kiara Metz for being selected for all showing the most growth among their peers during Dec. in their class.
Senior Sarah Lopez Tapia was nominated by her English Teacher Amy Schmeltz for growth in attendance, assignment completion, grade improvement, and classroom behavior. Schmeltz said, “Sarah began the semester constantly questioning her abilities to read and write well, but by the end of the semester, she seemed confident that she was able to think critically and draft a solid essay every time.”
Sophomore Caleb Deacon was nominated by his Radio TV Teacher Judi Lykowski for assignment completion, grade improvement, and classroom behavior. Lykowski said, “Caleb has grown tremendously in Radio TV, especially when it comes to volunteering to help out in general, helping others without being prompted, assignment competition, and improving the quality of work he is producing weekly. I am proud of him for his efforts to not only make his work look better but overall make the quality of the sports show look better. I look forward to seeing his continued growth come 2nd semester.”
Freshman Kiara Metz was nominated by WSOI Science Teacher Laura Unsicker for growth in the area of grade improvement. Unsicker said, “Kiara has worked extremely hard this semester to improve her understanding of Biology and overall performance in the course. Her hard work and perseverance are evident in class every day and her grade in the class is reflective of her efforts.”
1st Source Bank generously donates $10 for each recipient. Plymouth High School uses the funds to purchase a gift card for each recipient at a restaurant of his/her choice. Plymouth High School would like to thank 1st Source Bank for sponsoring the Growth Awards this month and throughout the entire school year.
