Three LJH Students will Compete in ISSMA State Competition on Saturday

Lincoln Junior High School Orchestra students recently competed in the 2019 Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble Contest hosted by Plymouth High School. Lincoln had a total of 73 students compete in the district competition, and three eighth grade students, Juan Salas (8), Alexander DeJarnatt (8), Kyleigh Weiler-Kara (8), advanced to the state competition that will take place this Saturday, February 23, 2019. The winds and percussions state ISSMA competition will take place at North Central High School and the strings competition will take place at Northview Middle School both in Indianapolis.

LJH and PHS Orchestra Director Jodi Kallenburg said she is especially proud of her students because they competed in the highest level of a field, mostly comprised of junior and senior high school students, and they received a gold rating for their performances. Specifically, Salas received a gold rating for both his violin solo and a violin trio performed with two other classmates, DeJarnatt and Weiler-Kara.

The following LJH students and groups received gold performances in the symphony orchestra; violin soloist Mia Lewis (7), the Gonce Quartet, violin and viola trio LearJC, the Wray Trio, JJW Trio, the Dodson, JACK, HATS quartets, the string sextet group, B&B Six. The following LJH students and groups also earned a gold rating in the chamber orchestra, violin soloists Kylie King (8), Kyleigh Weiler-Kara, and Chloe Roberts (7), the group, Record Quartet, a double string trio, 2 Rivers, a violin trio, Fiery Fermatas, and the MAC Trio.
