School Lunch Hero Day 2019

Friday, May 3, is School Lunch Hero Day. A time for our students and staff to shower our school lunch heroes with thanks and recognition. Between preparing healthy meals, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, PCSC nutrition professionals have a lot on their plate. Under updated federal nutrition standards, school nutrition staff offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and fat-free or low-fat milk with school lunch. Cafeterias must also limit the sodium, calories, and saturated fat in each meal. PCSC nutrition professionals have been mixing up the menu and getting students excited about trying these healthier choices. School Lunch Hero Day is a nationwide celebration Inspired by children’s author and illustrator, Jarrett Krosoczka who created School Lunch Hero Day to honor the food service employees after returning to his old school and finding his childhood lunch lady remained and remembered him.
