The Wedding of Q and U!

The Wedding of Q and U!

Jefferson Elementary School’s kindergarten classrooms will be having a full-blown wedding ceremony to unite the letters Q and U on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:40 a.m.

Jefferson Elementary School is located at 401 E. Klinger Street in Plymouth.

Jefferson’s kindergarten teachers want students to remember whenever you spell words that begin with the letter q, the second letter will always be the letter u. Kindergarten teacher Brooke Hulse said, “Those two letters always go together. The letter “Q” can't make it in a world without the letter “U”. Having the wedding reinforces the idea to our students that that every time they write a word with a q in kindergarten, they will always follow the q with a u.”

Just like an actual wedding, Jefferson’s celebration consists of two parts: a wedding ceremony and a reception.

Jefferson’s kindergarten teachers are busy setting the scene and making sure everything is ready for the big day in their adjoining classrooms.

Although the wedding is a quick event, and is expected to last around an hour, the Jefferson kindergarten staff worked really hard to make the conclusion of this unit an extra special event for the Kindergarten students.

Invitations were sent home to each student’s family, informing parents that they are welcome to attend the big event. Many students have been selected to play a special role in the wedding. Some will play the role photographers, a of a minister, flower girls, guest book attendants, and even the bride and the groom.

All students are instructed to wear their Sunday best for the big day. Many of the students will be coming as VIPs, other letters in the alphabet.

After the ceremony, a reception will immediately follow with cake and dancing.
