Saving Lives Through Prevention & Awareness

Becky Savage, president of the 525 Foundation, spoke at Plymouth High School on December 4. She talked to PHS students, community members, students from Culver Community High School and Argos High School, about the tragic experience her Michiana family has endured due to alcohol and opioids. With close to 1,500 students in the gymnasium, it was astonishingly quiet; so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop during Savage’s presentation. The 525 Foundation was established by the Savage family after their sons Nick and Jack died in June of 2015 after attending graduation parties with their friends. The teenage boys had been drinking, and they each took a prescription OxyContin pill that had been offered to them. Nick and Jack were found dead the next morning in their Granger home. Savage says she speaks publicly about her sons Nick and Jack to try and prevent another family from having to endure the pain of such tragedy, through the use of outreach, education, and support. The Plymouth Community School Corporation thanks the Marshall County prosecutor's office for sponsoring Wednesday’s speaking engagement.
