After Serving PCSC Transportation Department for 26 Years, Brenda Uceny Retires
Transportation director Brenda Uceny has officially retired after 26 years of working for Plymouth Community School Corporation. Uceny began her career for PCSC in 1992, where she started out driving routes for Plymouth school preschool students and students with disabilities. "Transportation for preschool was introduced in 1992, and I started driving with two students that attended Kaleidoscope Children's Center," said Uceny. She said she learned at an early age that driving a school bus was the right profession for her. "Growing up on a farm - I was accustomed to driving big vehicles. After working my first week, I fell in love with the students! I could be myself and be silly and goofy with the kids but yet be responsible." In 2009, Uceny moved up the ranks within PCSC's transportation department and was promoted to the assistant transportation director, a position she remained in for nearly eight years. In 2016, Uceny was promoted once again, but this time to the corporation's top spot in the department, the director of transportation; a position she has held for the past three years. She said her biggest accomplishment while working in education is looking at the big picture of how far the PCSC transportation department has evolved.
Uceny graduated from Plymouth High School in 1974, and after graduation, she attended the Academy Hair College where she studied cosmetology. She went on to earn an associates degree from Ivy Tech Community College, where she was awarded the Ivy Tech Outstanding Alumna Award. In 1989, Uceny performed in a national bodybuilding competition, and decades later she still prioritizes her health and fitness. Since 2011, Uceny has been an aqua exercise instructor at LifePlex Fitness Forum Sports and Wellness in Plymouth.
Uceny who was a member of the Marshall County 4-H Council from 2001-2003 said it was a tough decision to retire, "I enjoy working very much as I still consider myself very young, but I want to be able to tell my family that I can do things with them without feeling guilty for not being at work. I'm going to just sit back, relax, and see what life brings me," she said.
She still plans on working part-time at LifePlex Fitness Forum and for Yoli, a national company. "Yoli helps people get healthy, lose weight, and believe in themselves to be more accountable for their decisions and their health. Their product transforms lives," said Uceny.
Her last day as the transportation director at Plymouth schools was Friday, June 28. She said she is looking forward to retirement so she can travel more with her family. "My daughter, Morgan and I are planning a trip to Europe to see some of the places that she was able to compete at when she was a professional track athlete," said Uceny.
