Parents and students who make up the class of 2023 are cordially invited to attend the annual Freshmen Orientation program on Wednesday, January 16 at Plymouth High School. The evening will begin with a PHS Information Fair starting at 5:45 p.m. followed by the annual Freshmen Orientation program in the PHS auditorium beginning at 6:15 p.m.

The evening is designed to create a smooth transition for students transitioning from eighth grade to Plymouth High School in the fall. Parents interested in transferring a child or children to Plymouth High School are also welcome to attend the event.

Plymouth High School teachers that represent various clubs and programs will be on hand to talk with students before the official program begins. Programs will be organized and grouped around the new IDOE graduation pathways. Dozens of PHS academic departments, clubs, and extracurricular programs will be represented as we welcome the class of PHS 2023.

Those who attend are asked to park in the north parking lot and enter through Door 5. Parents and students are encouraged to attend the event together to learn about IDOE graduation pathways, including diploma requirements, employability skills, and postsecondary readiness competencies.

Another special event that will be going on during this year's Freshmen Orientation is a Music Panel for students interested in considering post-secondary education in music. Representatives from Bethel College, IUSB, and Valparaiso University will be on hand to help students sort through some of the important decisions that can be made to help students in pursuit of a possible degree in music.

A music panel discussion session for incoming freshmen will take place from 5-6 p.m. The session will center around what classes students should take in high school, whether students should take private music lessons, and careers that exist for music majors. A music panel discussion for students in grades 9-12 will continue during the 6-7 p.m. hour. This session will center around what is involved in a music audition, how students can prepare for a music audition, should students audition for All-State, and what colleges and universities are looking for when it comes to a high school student's resume.

The entire evening is expected to conclude by 8 p.m.
