The Plymouth High School Computer Science program is hosting an event to celebrate Computer Science Education Week on Wednesday, December 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Navy Room at Weidner School of Inquiry @PHS. Student guests will face an exciting after school programming challenge. The event is for Lincoln Junior High and Plymouth High School students who are interested in seeing what Computer Science is all about, but don't necessarily have programming experience. Throughout the event students will be able to participating in the Hour of Code(TM) presented by Code.org and CSEdWeek.org. Activities have fun themes - like Minecraft, the Grinch, and Star Wars.

For students with programming experience, the three-hour event centers around a programming competition with a mystery theme. The theme will be announced at the beginning of the challenge. Plymouth High School Computer Science program facilitator Lindsay Moore said, “Students are invited to come explore programming concepts in a fun, interactive environment even if they have no prior coding experience.”

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. The grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. To learn more about the Hour of Code visit https://hourofcode.com.

The 2018 Computer Science Education Week is going on now December 3-9, and is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper December 9, 1906. To find out more information about the week visit the following website link.
