On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, Plymouth Community School Corporation school board approved the appointment of Kyle Coffman as the new principal at Riverside Intermediate School. "I know the school year just finished, but I cannot wait for the 18-19 school year to begin. I'm rocket ready." Mr. Coffman shared.
Coffman, an assistant principal at Plymouth High School, will succeed Jeni Hirschy, who will retire on June 21, after serving as the Riverside Intermediate School principal since 2012. "Mrs. Hirschy is one of the hardest workers I have met," Coffman said. "I know I have big shoes to fill, yet I am excited to work with the great teachers and students at Riverside to continue and build on its success." Riverside, is a fifth through sixth grade school with a Project Based Learning school, Innovation Academy @ RIS, housed inside.
Coffman has worked for Plymouth Community School Corporation for 11 years. He was originally hired as an English teacher at Plymouth High School in 2012; a position he held proudly for five years before being promoted to assistant principal at PHS. "Plymouth High School will always hold a special place in my heart," Coffman stated. "It's been the only place I've known professionally, and I will miss it, but the opportunity to give back and serve Riverside, PCSC, and the Plymouth community was one that I was drawn to immediately."
Coffman holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education from Manchester University where he received a Citation of High Merit. He earned his Ed.S. in School Superintendency from Ball State University and also received Citation of High Merit.
In October of 2017, Coffman was chosen as the Indiana Association of School Principals District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year. District 2 is made up of the following Michiana Counties: LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Starke, Marshall, Kosciusko, Pulaski, and Fulton.
Coffman was selected as a most inspirational educator by three Plymouth High School students who were among the top 5% of the class in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Kyle is married to Jennifer Coffman. She is the chief deputy city clerk for the city of South Bend and she teaches at Manchester University.
