LJHS has Earned the ISSMA All-Music Award for the Fourth Consecutive Time

Music Notes

Lincoln Junior High has earned the Indiana State School Music Association Junior/Middle/Elementary All-Music Award for the fourth time in a row! In order to qualify for the All-Music Award, middle school programs must meet three criteria.  First, at least one solo performance and one small group performance must earn a gold rating in middle or higher difficulty levels at a Solo & Ensemble event.  Second, a gold rating must be earned in a jazz organization event.  Third, a concert band must also earn a gold rating in group three or higher.

Lincoln bands met the criteria and then some this year.  Nathan Filson, Madelyn Mann, and Elijah Schramm earned golds for group three level solos. Tanner Feece, Isaac Navejar, Nathan Filson, William Kingston, Elijah Schramm, Noelia Cervantes, and Jackson Bougher performed ensembles that earned gold ratings and helped Lincoln qualify for the Solo & Ensemble portion of the award.

Despite all of the weather issues Plymouth experienced in February, the jazz band pulled through and competed in Kokomo. The group earned a gold rating from all three judges.  Anica Denney, William Kingston, Alex Cameron, Lucas Record, Eli Schramm, Carson Humphrey, and Cameron Ewing performed improvised solos at the event.

Finally, both the 7th and 8th grade concert bands earned gold ratings in ISSMA performances.  The Intermediate Band, comprised of over sixty students, performed in group three and earned a gold rating.  The Advanced Band performed in group one, the most difficult group level for junior high, and also earned a gold rating. They had the additional honor of earning the "With Distinction" award, which means all judges gave them a very high gold rating.

“Every band student at Lincoln had a hand in helping earn this award,” stated band director, Lisa Wallyn.  “I am so proud of the growth these students have shown this year, especially considering the challenges placed before them.” Lincoln is one of only forty-eight schools in the state to earn the "All-Music Award" for band. Lincoln has earned the award all of the years it has been offered.
