Some of Riverside's students anonymously shared their feelings by writing them on note cards. Initially, the intent was to allow students to better understand their classmates in order to build increased empathy. Once the cards were returned, Riverside's eLearning Rockstars and SOLE group decided to create a video to share their feelings with the hope that students would become more aware of some of the happiness and sadness their classmates experience on a daily basis.
Sixth graders, Griffin Nate and Harold Niones, at Riverside Intermediate organized the entire student body and staff to film a lip dub for Relay for Life!
They are in S.O.L.E., a self-organized learning environment, where they are able to create projects based on their interests. Griffin and Harold wanted to create something to support cancer survivors and their families. They chose to do a lip dub for Marshall County Relay For Life, using One Republic’s song “I Lived.” They will be sharing their video live on the WNDU Morning Show in the next coming weeks!
"Our intention of doing this, was to help raise awareness and also encourage those who have cancer, including their families, to stay strong". -Griffin Nate
Help spread the word and share their video!
Riverside's fifth-grade PBL team studied the American Revolution, and groups of students created skits for the important events in the Revolution. Students created props, sets, scripts; they acted; they were responsible for backstage efforts; and they sang songs and played their recorders. The entire production was created by the students, and it was both educational and entertaining. It was a perfect example of students taking charge and ownership of their learning, a key element of project-based learning.
