Have a fun and safe summer vacation! Be sure to find time to read, read, read. Students who read over summer have a smoother transition into the new school year. Those who don't read often lose reading skills they worked so hard to develop. The Plymouth Public Library offers a wonderful and motivating reading program for children. On Tuesday, June 3rd, Menominee Elementary School held its spring Title 1 event titled Literacy Luau. Students participated in several literacy-themed activities including participating in a read-in, listening to a story from our librarian, Mrs. Roth, and playing literacy games. Students also completed a craft, participated in a sing-along with Mr. Pickell, and had their photos taken in the "photo booth." Miss Marie from the Plymouth Public Library was also gracious enough to visit the students and speak to them about the summer reading program. Thanks to Miss Walters for planning and organizing this amazing event. Thanks, also, to all the students who participated and all the parents, volunteers, and staff who helped make the day a huge success!
We'd like to welcome Mr. Steven Boyer to Menominee as our new principal! Mr. Boyer has been with the Plymouth Community School Corporation for eight years. He taught language arts at Lincoln, and he has been the assistant principal at Riverside the past two years. We are happy to have Mr. Boyer join our Menominee family.
Many thanks to Mrs. Amy Gerard, our interim principal, for all she did for our students, staff, and families. We wish her the best as she returns to her position as Director of Project Based Learning.
Registration for the 2014-2015 school
year will take place on July 30 and
July 31 at Plymouth High School.
If your child borrowed clothes from Mrs. Grimmit this year, please be sure to return them unless you were told to keep them.
If your child wears flip flops to school, please pack a pair of gym shoes. Flip flops frequently break and are not wearable. Also, flip flops are not safe footwear for many P.E. and recess activities.
Please consider donating gym shoes to the school if your child outgrows them and they are in good shape.
Our lost and found bins have some pretty nice items in them. If you will be in the building or you have a chance to stop in sometime this week, please take a minute to see if any of your child's possessions are in the bins.
Just a reminder that medications in the nurse's office need to be picked up before the end of the day on Thursday, June 5. Please call Mrs. Grimmett if you have questions or concerns.
The Boys and Girls Club will have their annual shutdown for repairs and cleaning from June 4-6. They will reopen for the 1st day of summer vacation.
Exciting news! Children's book author David Sargent, Jr. and his dogs will be here for an all-school convocation on Wednesday, June 4. Afterwards, the students will have the opportunity to speak with the author, purchase selections of their choice, and have their titles autographed. Your child will bring home additional information later this week.
Menominee students will share their talents at our
upcoming talent show. You are welcome to join us
on Thursday, May 29 at 1:30 p.m.
