7th Grade Football Results vs. Wawasee - 10/9/17

Lincoln battled Wawasee last night for a ticket to the championship game. Wawasee had beaten Lincoln earlier in the season 26-12. It was a much different game last night as the Lincoln defense was very strong up the middle. Alex Johnson, Connor Schmiedlin, Michael Sheely, Andy Young, and Matthew McCrum shut down the runs between the tackles, forcing Wawasee to go to the air. In doing so, that allowed Brock Jensen to pick up a couple of huge sacks, while David Mathison got a pass deflection. Wawasee eventually scored on a reverse. Lincoln was able to move the up and down the field, but penalties and the clock hurt their scoring opportunities. Roman Snedeker and Easton Strain both spent time as QB leading the Lincoln attack. Shane Abberger and Hunter Warren split carries to drive the ball down the field in the first half, but ran out of time. Lincoln went to the half trailing 8-0. In the second half The Lincoln defense continued their strong play giving their offense the ball early in the 4th quarter. Lincoln drove the ball all the across the field to eat up most of the quarter. Near the goal-line, Shane Abberger dove across for a TD, and Strain scored the 2pt conversion leaving it tied 8-8. In the 1st OT, Isaiah Navejar shut down Wawasee's 1st possession with an interception. Lincoln had an untimely penalty on offense was unable to score. in the 2nd OT Wawsee had 4th and goal from the 4 yard line, and connected to a TD pass to end the game.
