Kelsea Hueni & Nicole Burns

First year Jefferson Elementary School teacher Nicole Burns is the lucky winner of a $250 classroom grant!

Today, Ms. Burns received the $250 grant in her kindergarten classroom! Synergy Insurance Group, an independent insurance agency in Mishawaka, held the online contest to kickoff the school year!

Facebook users nominated deserving Michiana teachers who could win the grant. The grant money must be used for classroom supplies. Nominations were submitted from August 18 until noon on Monday, August 21.

Burns was born and raised in Mishawaka. She attended Indiana State University for two years and then transferred to Western Governor's University where she graduated in 2017 with a degree in elementary education.

She is thrilled to start off her career at Jefferson and said she plans to use the money to purchase items for her classroom that she already has in her Amazon cart ready for checkout. Nicole said now that she won this grant she can now afford to click submit on her classroom order.

Synergy Insurance Group account Manager Kelsea Hueni who delivered the check to Burns on Friday said this is the first time the insurance company held such a contest. The faith-based independent insurance agency is headquartered in Mishawaka and has offices in both Mishawaka and Elkhart.

Congratulations Ms. Burns!
