Close to a dozen Plymouth High School students on the PHS Dance Marathon executive committee held a mini dance marathon at Lincoln Junior High School throughout the school day on Friday. This is the third year for the LJHS Mini Marathon. In all, 314 students took part in this year’s event raising a record amount by the school - $6,280. Last year, the event raised $3,820.
The cost to attend the fun-filled day was $20 per student. A little more than two dozen students who needed help with the cost to participate were generously sponsored privately by donations made by the Lincoln staff.
Throughout the day students learned sections of a special three-minute dance routine choreographed by Plymouth High School junior Kelsey Owen. Several spontaneous dance-offs were held during the day which kept students engaged while raising money for Riley Hospital for Children.
Pizza was served at noon and at 2 p.m. a schoolwide spirit assembly was held in the gymnasium. To end the 2018 Lincoln Mini Dance Marathon students performed the special dance they learned in front of the whole school and then the grand total of this year’s fundraiser was announced.
Last Friday, the PHS Dance Marathon student committee members held a mini dance marathon at Riverside Intermediate School where students raised $7,240. All donations raised thus far will be combined towards the grand total for tomorrow’s 7th annual PHS Riley Dance Marathon that kicks off in the Plymouth High School auxiliary gym at noon. This year’s goal is $35,000.
