Riverside Holds All Day Read-In to Celebrate National Young Readers Week

Since 1989, National Young Readers Week has been an annual event held during the second week of November to raise awareness around the importance of reading. National Young Reader's Week is part of Pizza Hut's Book It Program. The event was co-founded by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

In recognition of National Young Readers Week Nov. 6-10, The BOOK IT! Program continued the tradition of challenging principals across the country to be examples for literacy and read one entire school day – from the first bell to last – during the week.

Riverside Intermediate School Principal Jeni Hirschy was up for the challenge and chose this past Thursday, November 10 to hold a full Read-In day! All staff and students were encouraged to dress as their favorite literary character. Riverside hopes to raise much needed awareness for the importance of literacy and generate a passion for reading among our students and our community!

Riverside would like to thank hundreds of our students and staff members who took part in this Pizza Hut BOOK IT challenge!

The Principal Challenge is part of Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program’s National Young Readers Week celebration. One lucky principal will win Kate DiCamillo books for the entire school! Each K-6 grade student will go home with their very own new book just in time for winter break. #YoungReaders
