PCSC Names Lauren Cooper as the New Principal at Washington Discovery Academy

On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, the Plymouth Community School Corporation school board unanimously approved promoting Lauren Cooper, an Instructional Coach at the corporation, to fill the principal opening at Washington Discovery Academy.

Cooper, began her educational career with the Plymouth Community School Corporation at the start of the 2008-2009  school year at Washington Discovery Academy as a second grade teacher. During the 2009-2010 school year, she taught second grade at Menominee Elementary School. She returned to WDA the following four consecutive school years, where she worked as a first grade teacher. Since the 2014-2015 school year, Cooper has served the corporation as an Instructional Coach at WDA. However during the 2015-2016 and the 2016-2017 school year, she has served as both an Instructional Coach at Jefferson Elementary School and Washington.

This is Cooper’s 13th year in education, she began her career in August of 2005 teaching first grade at Queen of All Saints Catholic School in Michigan City, where she remained for three years before coming on board at Plymouth Schools.

Cooper was born and raised in Marion, Indiana, where she graduated from Marion High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph’s College and a Master of Education degree in School Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Cooper is a proud resident of Plymouth and is married to Zane Cooper, a sixth grade facilitator at the Innovation Academy @ Riverside Intermediate School.

They have a daughter named Birkley who will be starting second grade this fall at Plymouth Community School Corporation.

Cooper said she is excited for the new school year to begin to welcome back the WDA staff and students in her new capacity as principal!
