PLYMOUTH—The 7th annual PHS Riley Dance Marathon will take place this coming Saturday in the Plymouth High Auxiliary Gym at noon. Hundreds of students will stay on their feet for nine hours straight to raise money for all the kids who physically cannot. As a mini-marathon under Ball State University, the money Plymouth High School raises will help fund the Magic Castle Cart program at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis as well as their Palliative Care Center. This year’s event will conclude across the hall from the Auxiliary Gym on Saturday at halftime during the Boys Varsity Basketball matchup against Mishawaka High School - (start time for the JV game is 6:45 p.m. - varsity to follow). PHS Dance Marathon students will perform a special halftime dance routine at the varsity game and then they will unveil the total dollar amount raised this year. In the past six years, PHS students, staff, and the Marshall County community have donated $147,563.50 to Riley Hospital for Children at Plymouth High School Dance Marathon. Students organizing this year’s event are asking the surrounding community once again to show their generosity to the kids at Riley Hospital for Children as they are hoping to surpass the $180,000 mark with total donation efforts.

Monetary donations can be made in person, at the event, at Saturday’s basketball game, by mail, or online at the 2018 PHS Dance Marathon FirstGiving page, which is donate. rileykids.org/phs2018.

Last year, the PHS Dance Marathon raised $31,000.51 for the kids at Riley Hospital. This year, the goal is $35,000. The Dance Marathon is a multi-hour, multifaceted event that blends dancing, games, crafts, food, and fun into one philanthropic experience. Students are on their feet the entire duration of the marathon as well, as they stand for the kids for Riley. If you are part of a business and want to help with pre- packaged snacks and beverages to keep the kids energized throughout the day as they dance, please contact PHS English Teacher and Dance Marathon Advisor Stephanie Wezeman via email at [email protected].  Students and staff fundraise all year long for this main event and can’t wait to be part of this event on Saturday. On Friday, PHS Dance Marathon student committee members will hold a mini dance marathon at Lincoln Junior High School.
