We want to keep your child warm and safe at Jefferson. Now that we have snow, we'd like to remind families about our playground rules in cold weather:
  • Snow boots (not fashion boots) are required on snowy and wet days if children want to leave the blacktop.
  • Snowpants are also required if children want to sit down in the snow.
  • Mittens, gloves, hats, a warm winter coat that zips are also needed.
  • We go outside for recess if the windchill is 15 degrees or above.
  • Snowball throwing of any kind is not permitted due to the number of children. Please help your student understand that some things allowed at home cannot be allowed at school for safety reasons.
We understand purchasing all these items for all the students in your care each year as they grow is financially challenging for many families. In response we have a limited number of gently used, cold-weather wear in our office for children to borrow and return for recess. We also encourage families to donate their winter hand-me-downs as their children outgrow them. Also be sure to check the lost-n-found box near the recess door for any misplaced items. If you need further assistance, please contact our social worker, Wendi Bendy at wbendy@plymouth.k12.in.us or our school nurse, Barb White at bwhite@plymouth.k12.in.us.

Breakfast with Santa 2011 was another great event planned by the Jefferson PTO. Jefferson Staff, Plymouth High School Student athletes, student volunteers, PTO members, and Santa volunteered their Saturday morning to help bring the spirit of the holidays to Jefferson families. Free events included; pictures with Santa, pancake and sausage breakfast, Santa's store of $1 items with shopping and wrapping assistants, crafts -- oh, and a BAKE SALE! Who could ask for more!

Green Tree Plastics of  Evansville recycles plastic caps into picnic tables, benches and more.

Now, in partnership with Jefferson, this is a hands-on, real-life experience for our students to acquire conservation habits for a lifetime of green living.

Once Jets collect 400 pounds of metal-free plastic caps, we exchange them for a 6-foot playground bench made from Green Tree Plastics' 100 percent CASTplastic™ for just $200. We could even get it in our school colors for an extra charge of $50!

If YOU take the lids off bottles and containers and bring them to the large container in the schools' entryway, everyone becomes more
aware of recycling.
BRING IN YOUR CAPS!
