Fourth Graders Honored at Awards Breakfast05/24/2012 Jefferson fourth graders were honored Thursday morning with a breakfast. Many parents were in attendance. Students were awarded for perfect attendance, citizenship, accelerated reader, Art, P.E., music, service, academics, student council, homework heros and many others. Congratulations to the spectacular class of 2020! We will miss you! What a show! Everybody loves a big dance number and Jefferson Jets are no exception. With top hits from Beauty and the Beast, Footloose and a specular rendition of Stuck Like Glue, our students learned what it would be like to perform in a show choir. They were fascinated. Add Comment Fun Fair from 5-7 p.m. Tonight at Jefferson05/18/2012 We can hardly wait! There'll be games and prizes, a dunk tank (Mr. Scheetz and Mr. Ringenberg!), bouncy house and bouncy slide, raffle baskets from your teachers and MORE MORE MORE! Tickets will be four for $1 at the fair and you can get pizza, a hot dog, cotton candy or a Sno Cone for four tickets! (Plus there is a super deal -- chips, drink and entree for just seven tickets!) Come celebrate the end of the school year and support Jefferson! Bring your friends! That's What We Like to See05/14/2012 Once in a while we feel like maybe we're making a difference in kids' lives. Imagine our delight when we looked out the window at recess time and saw all these fourth-graders doing THIS! Congratulations to the many, many Jets who passed their Accelerated Reading goals ALL FOUR GRADING PERIODS! Yay! Invitations to the AR celebration 2 p.m.-4 p.m. May 14 at Plymouth High School have gone home and permission slips are due back May 10. (We need these because there is bus transportation from Jefferson to PHS AND because parents will need to pick up their child later than normal AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. The movie is Happy Feet II and we are including a small snack. We also need chaperones -- one for every 10 kids and there are about 130 kids attending the party. Please, if you'd like to see a free movie with your child, we'd love to have you from 2:15-4 p.m. at PHS that day. Just give your name to your child's teacher or email the librarian, Mrs. Petrucelli at apetrucelli@plymouth.k12.in.us Thanks to families who helped their kids read at home this year. Just a few minutes a night makes a huge difference in your student's comprehension and fluency and that helps them in all subjects. For real. Thanks also to Papa John's Pizza of Plymouth for contributing the awesome fourth-quarter prize -- a whole free pizza or bread sticks order. Wowie! All week, Mrs. Woods' second grade has been learning about force -- pushing, pulling, magnetic, gravity and friction. Friday they build challenges using each of these forces and learned how they work. Today marks the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers' love and hard work make Jefferson a Great Place to Be. Thanks to all the families who submitted six-word essays in thanks for everything their child's teacher does all year. The teachers will receive your words this week or have been invited by state superintendent of schools Dr. Tony Bennett and the Indiana Department of Education to the Teacher Appreciation Week 2012 Kick-Off Celebration at the statehouse in Indianapolis. Among the many teachers recognized were second grade's Mrs. Woods, first grade's Mrs. Setser and third grade's Ms. Rooney. There were many more. Thanks Jefferson families. Recycled Benches are In!05/04/2012 Remember when we asked you to send in the plastic caps from your household products? We collected more than 800 pounds from Jefferson families and area community groups and the benches are now here! Aren't they great? Thanks to Green Tree Plastics of Evansville that taught our Jets about hands-on, real-life conservation habits for a lifetime of green living. Mr. Scheetz' second grade class learned about buoyancy Wednesday by creating clay boats and seeing if they could float in a pail of water. "I learned that it doesn't work every time," said Jade Montano. "It needs to be thin and the walls need to be high." Check out the awesome "Peep" tree made by Jefferson students Dejayna Thews and Nicole Oviedo in celebration of our hard-working office staff. From left, office manager Patty Barker, nurse Barb White, accountant Josie Puglisi and principal Angie Mills pose with tree creators Thews and Oviedo.
