Tonight will be the first Student Lead Parent-Teacher Conferences in the history of PHS.  The conferences will run from 6-8 pm and will have 2 phases.  In phase 1, students will meet with their parents in the cafeteria and the students will lead the parents through a presentation they have prepared on their MacBook Pro that shows the parents how the student has done in class, and what they believe their strengths and weaknesses to be.  After this initial conference, parents and students can circulate through the building to meet with individual teachers.
With this in mind, today we would like to highlight a student assignment from the first 6 weeks from one of our business classes taught by Mrs. Felke.  In this project based learning assignment, students created a Virtual Vacation and then presented this vacation to their classmates in the form of a video or website.  Below find one of the videos for this project.

Below is a video created by 3 students in Mrs. Kruyer's US History class.  The project combined students working collaboratively in a group, with narrative writing skills, and integration of technology.  Initially the students had to research one of three professions from the United States during the latter half of the 1800's, after doing this research the students then wrote a descriptive, first person narrative that described an average day that they would face working in this field and living in the Western United States at this time.  After writing their narrative, the students then chose one of three methods to present their day to the rest of the students in the class.  These methods could be:  Creating a Newsletter, Creating an Ebook using iPhoto, or using iMovie.

In the example below, the students used a voice over to narrate their typical day, and then combined this voice over with an existing film on the late 1800's, and then finally returned to their own narration to end the film.
