SPECIAL STATEMENT:  Due to the impending weather forecast, the date for the Kindergarten Round-up has been changed to Thursday, February 28, 2013.

Since non-resident students can now attend Plymouth Community School Corporation (PCSC) with no tuition, PCSC will host the annual Kindergarten Round-up on February 28, 2013 in all Plymouth Elementary Schools.  Parents are invited to bring their children to Plymouth.
Resident parents should attend their specific school district round-up. Non-resident parents may attend the round-up at any of the four Plymouth Elementary Schools; however, their child may be placed at another Plymouth School to balance class size.  Parents interested in having their student(s) attend Washington Discovery Academy need to attend the kindergarten round-up at Washington Discovery Academy.
There will be two sessions.  Parents and children need only attend one session.  The 1st session is at 1:30 p.m.  The 2nd session is at 6:00 p.m.  Each session should last no longer than one hour.
Please bring an original copy of your child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and a social security number.  The schools will make copies of the originals.  For Spanish speaking kindergartners and parents, interpreters will be available.  During the hour-long round-up, parents will meet with administrators and fill out registration forms; children will meet with kindergarten teachers for screening.
In order to be eligible for Kindergarten Round-up this year, your child needs to be 5 years old on or before August 1, 2013.
For those unsure of which building their child will attend, please call the transportation department at 574-936-3169.

Sophomore Emma Libersky won top honors at the Indiana Poetry Out Loud Competition and will represent Indiana at the National Finals on April 29-30, 2013 in Washington D.C.  Not only is Libersky the first Plymouth High School champion to advance to Nationals, but she did so against the largest pool of competitors at the state level since the competition's inception.  24 other schools competed on February 23, 2013 in Clowes Auditorium at Indianapolis Central Public Library with hopes to advance.

Libersky receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete at the National Finals, where a total of $50,000 in scholarship awards and school stipends will be awarded with a $20,000 college scholarship award for the National Champion.

Contestants must memorize and recite three poems for the competition and are scored on the following categories: physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, level of difficulty (poem), evidence of understanding, and overall performance.  Libersky recited Lisel Mueller's "Monet Refuses the Operation," Robert Frost's "After Apple-Picking," and George Eliot's "In a London Drawingroom."

Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation.

Michaila Nate - First Debate State Champion in Plymouth History
The Plymouth High School Debate Team recently traveled to Kokomo High School for the IHSFA State Competition and returned with the 9th place trophy.   The four-person debate team out-dueled many other teams by entering only one of Indiana's four debate events.  "The dominance of our speech team often makes it difficult for PHS speakers to remain interested in debate," reported Head Speech and Debate Coach Dave McKenzie.  "This group stuck with it and performed very well to overcome much larger and diverse teams from across the state."

Senior Michaila Nate led the way advancing through the regional and semi-state chambers by virtue of victories in each.  In the Super Senate, she competed head-to-head against the top sixteen speakers in Indiana.  After almost ten hours of debate on nine different pieces of legislation, Michaila emerged victorious.  She is the first Debate State Champion in Plymouth history.  Plymouth narrowly missed state championships in 2002 when Amy Kelley and Marjorie Kreighbaum finished 2nd in Policy Debate as well as 2000 when Phil Kreighbaum finished 2nd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Michaila competed at the NFL National Tournament in Congress as a sophomore and a junior.  She also competed at the NCFL Grand National Tournament as a junior. Pictured above:  Michaila Nate holding her Super Senate qualification ribbon as well as her State Championship trophy.

Other points toward the 9th place team finish were earned by sophomore Garrick Nate who advanced to the semi-state round of Congressional Debate and freshman Emily McKenzie who was named a Presiding Officer in the Regional House of Representatives.  Freshman Maddy Deisch also competed in the Regional House of Representatives and narrowly missed advancing to the semi-state.
